Keeping Your Face Healthy During This Bright, Sunny Summer

Of all the areas of your body where skincare is a concern, your face is always going to be priority number one. It’s our most visible and identifiable part, but it’s also the part of us that’s out and showing most of the time, which also means it’s often exposed to the rays of the sun. Even if they can be helpful when working on a tan, the damage, premature ageing, and discolouration that can be caused by the sun should be no surprise. So, how do you give your face the care it needs under that summer sun?

 

Protection is number one

The number one concern should be making sure that you’re doing enough to protect your face from the sun. To that end, never leave the home without sun lotion. Make sure that you always put some on when you go out, making sure it is at least SPF 40, and that it offers both UV-A and UV-B protection. You should also be mindful of the parts of the face that start to show age a little more easily than others. The areas around the eyes (such as where crow’s feet can appear) tend to be of most concern, so a good pair of ethical sunglasses is going to help you give them that little bit more protection.

While protection of the skin and prevention of things like sunburn should be your number one concern, that doesn’t mean that aesthetics can’t be a close second. To that end, you should make sure that you’re taking steps to diminish and reduce the facial symptoms that can pop up during the summer, such as dry skin, redness, blotchiness, and extra dry skin. To that end, you should look at some of the facial treatments that are available near you. Giving your skin the hydration and nutrition that it needs is not only going to help it look more youthful for longer, but it’s also going to help protect it from the nutrient-sucking effects of the sunlight, as well.

Hydration is the key

The water content in your skin is a big part of what keeps it looking fresh, soft, and well-balanced. The air in the summer isn’t the driest that it gets throughout the year, but the heat is going to get you sweating, which means moisture loss throughout the summer. A light moisturizer is going to be key, thick enough to not run, but thin enough to make sure that it doesn’t feel like wearing a mask, which can make your face even hotter. Be sure to make sure that you get enough water throughout the day as well. There are even hydration apps that can track your drinking to make sure that you’re on track.
